What web accessibility means and why it matters now

Web accessibility means building your website so people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities can use it, with a screen reader, keyboard, magnifier or voice control. The global standard is WCAG, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and the level most laws expect is WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA. When a site meets that level, it works for assistive technology and is far easier for everyone else too.

This is no longer optional. In the US, ADA Title III and Section 508 are driving a steady rise in web-accessibility lawsuits and demand letters against businesses of every size. In Europe, the European Accessibility Act came into force in 2025, extending requirements to many private-sector digital services. UK businesses face duties under the Equality Act. If you sell to US, UK or EU customers, inaccessible web pages are now a real legal and commercial liability, not just a nice-to-have.

We treat accessibility as engineering, not decoration. We audit against WCAG 2.2 AA, fix the underlying HTML, ARIA, colour, focus order and components by hand, then document it so you can prove your effort. Our own EPIXS website is built WCAG-compliant from the ground up, we practise what we sell.

  • Code-level remediation by developers, not a script bolted on top

FAQ

Web Accessibility (ADA/WCAG) — FAQs

Is web accessibility actually a legal requirement?

Yes. In the US, ADA Title III and Section 508 drive a rising number of lawsuits and demand letters, and the EU's European Accessibility Act applies from 2025. If you sell to US, UK or EU customers, an inaccessible website is a genuine legal and commercial risk.

Can't I just install an accessibility overlay widget?

No. Overlay widgets have been widely discredited, are frequently named in ADA lawsuits, and one major vendor was fined by the FTC. They cannot fix broken underlying code. We remediate the real markup, which is what holds up legally and works with assistive technology.

What standard do you audit against?

WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 at Level AA, the conformance target most laws and contracts reference. We combine automated tooling with manual testing using screen readers and keyboard-only navigation, because many real-world issues only surface through hands-on testing.

Will you give us something we can show buyers or lawyers?

Yes. After remediation we provide an accessibility statement and, where you need it, a VPAT for procurement. These document your conformance and the good-faith effort that matters if your accessibility is ever questioned.

How much does accessibility compliance cost?

It depends on your site's size, complexity and how far it is from WCAG AA today. A small marketing site differs greatly from a large app or store. We scope after an initial audit, and offer ongoing monitoring retainers. Ask for a free quote.
